Features of art education in today’s conditions

Abstract

The article reveals and substantiates the features of art education in today’s conditions, which we have revealed in several aspects, namely: art education as a socio-cultural phenomenon; as a branch of education; as a holistic, continuous process. Art education as a socio-cultural phenomenon indicates a close connection with art as a form of social consciousness, one of the ways of knowing the world and determining one’s place in it, a way of creative activity. The specificity of art as a holistic formation is associated with the semiotic- sign system in the genus-species concretization, in close connection with social, cultural- historical existence and other forms of social consciousness. The features of art education as a process are determined by its main goal, namely: the formation of a comprehensively developed personality, which is a subject of cultural creation in the present conditions, has an aesthetic attitude to life in its various manifestations, understands and perceives the beautiful, adheres to generally accepted norms of behavior and possesses universal human qualities.In Ukraine, art education is developing in a system that in the horizontal dimension covers general, extracurricular, professional and specialized educational spheres, and in the vertical dimension – all levels: preschool, school, higher school, postgraduate education. Thus, art education involves the acquisition by a person of aesthetic experience and value orientations in the process of artistic activity, a complex of professional competencies, and is also aimed at the artistic and creative self-realization of the personality, obtaining qualifications in various types of art. The benchmark for professional training of future teachers of the art education sector is its goal, defined by the State Standard of Basic Secondary Education, in particular: the holistic development of a successful student’s personality in the process of mastering the artistic achievements of mankind.
